Chen Sa

A picture of Arie VardiChen Sa has established herself as one of the most charismatic pianists of her generation.

Laureate of the Leeds, Chopin and Cliburn competitions, Chen Sa has launched her international career performing with some of the finest orchestras, such as the Israel Philharmonic, Moscow Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, NHK Symphony, San Francisco Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Royal Stockholm Symphony, WDR Symphony, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, China Philharmonic and the China National Symphony, among others. Notable conductors with whom she has worked include Sir Simon Rattle, Semyon Bychkov, Sir Antonio Pappano, Fabio Luisi, Yuri Simonov, Myung-Whun Chung, and Long Yu.

In chamber music, Chen Sa has performed at Lockenhaus Festival, Salzburg Festival, Dusznicki Festival, Ruhr Piano Festival, and St. Petersburg Piano Festival, and has collaborated with great artists such as violinist Gidon Kremer and cellists Natalie Gutman and Jian Wang.

Chen Sa has recorded 10 CDs, including three solo albums with JVC and IMC label, and live performances at the Chopin and Cliburn competitions published by Harmonia Mundi. The three albums she recorded with Pentatone in the Netherlands featured Chopin Piano Concertos No. 1 and No. 2, and Russian Solo Works. London Classical FM selected her Chopin Album as the best CD of the month for her “soulful performance”. As a creative experiment, she recorded an all-Chinese Compositions album, playing piano concerti accompanied by Chinese instruments, produced by the BIS (Sweden). The BBC Music Magazine dubbed it as “the most interesting and successful recording of new Chinese music to date.”
